Sebastijan Dračić

Sebastijan Dračić was born in 1980 in Zagreb where he graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2006. So far he has exhibited at numerous solo and group exhibitions in the country and abroad (Croatia, Austria, Germany, Poland, China, Italy). His works belong to a number of museums, galleries, private and corporate art collections in Croatia and abroad. He has been awarded several times for his work so far. He works as an assistant professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb.

Sebastijan Dračić has imposed himself with his work to-date as one of the most significant and interesting representatives of his generation and the Croatian art scene. His artistic expression is characterized by unique painterly precision, great care for details, studiousness, true creativity, outstanding talent. He is best known for his monumental figurative oil paintings, depicted in rich colour, presented some mystical, enigmatic atmosphere almost on the boundary between the reality and illusion. As the artist himself once said: “My paintings depict a world that exists on the edge of dream and reality.”

In his art works different topics run from empty interiors, depictions of destroyed and abandoned architecture, different landscapes, green forests to mystical scenes. Through the medium of painting, Dračić quite suggestively speaks of everything that surrounds us, of the relationship between civilisation and nature, he is concerned with the state of the present-day civilization, nature and its cycles as well as about the future of the our planet. In all the complexity and splendour of his talent, on his magically beautiful paintings he would let everyone see what they want or can see.
