Zen Contemporary Art Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new works by internationally acclaimed Italian sculptor Daniele Fortuna. Fortuna’s sculptures focus on the human figure, interpreted in the spirit of classical tradition through the language of contemporary sculptural morphology. Hand-shaped wooden elements are assembled like a sculptural puzzle, while colour and artistic process further distance them from their historical models and place them within the context of contemporary visual expression.
The exhibition presents a series of the artist’s new works, brought together in a cycle entitled Expression, in which the classical figure becomes a bearer of emotion. The focus is on the face: a smile, surprise, fear, tenderness, or unease gives each sculpture its own story and inner life. What was once idealised and serene now becomes, in Fortuna’s work, alive, immediate, and infused with powerful emotions. Through this cycle, Fortuna reminds us that life, like sculpture, is constantly being shaped. Every new emotion, perspective, and expression opens the possibility of seeing the familiar differently and finding within ourselves space for a new beginning.
