Grgur Akrap

Grgur Akrap was born in Zagreb in 1988, where he graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2013 in the class of Professor Damir Sokić. Since 2013, he has presented his work in numerous exhibitions both at home and abroad. He has received various awards, including the Award of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb presented at the 51st Zagreb Salon of Visual Arts in 2016, the Best Young Artist Award at the 3rd Biennial of Painting in 2015, and a special award from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 2013 for outstanding performance in his studies and the best Master’s Thesis. This young, but already highly accomplished artist has created a recognisable and authentic artistic signature. By participating in many group and solo exhibitions, Grgur Akrap has gained a solid reputation among art critics and the art audience as an outstanding young artist, as evidenced by the awards and recognitions he has received for his artistic achievements so far.

Grgur Akrap is a member of the younger generation of Croatian painting, which is focusing on figurative painting. His art is characterised by a strong figurative style interpreted in the spirit of tradition, but also in a very contemporary and individual way. Richness of colour, intensive brush strokes, thick coat of paint, symbolic interpretation of secular and biblical motif—these are some of the most recognisable elements in his paintings. Given his creativity, persistence and enormous talent, we can be sure that this young artist will make his mark on the Croatian art scene in the years to come.
